F3 squad targets strong showing at Spa-Francorchamps
Round 6 – Spa – Report
The challenge continues. Spa-Francorchamps marks Round 6 of the FIA Formula 3 Championship this weekend, as Hitech heads to one of the most iconic circuits on the calendar looking to build on the progress shown in recent rounds.
Following a positive home event at Silverstone, where Fionn McLaughlin secured his first FIA Formula 3 points finish and the team continued to show encouraging pace, Hitech arrives in Belgium aiming to carry that momentum forward.
The team has worked hard between events to maximise performance across all three cars, with the focus now on delivering a complete weekend at one of motorsport’s most demanding venues.
Spa-Francorchamps is a circuit steeped in history and presents a unique challenge for FIA Formula 3 drivers and teams. Measuring 7.004km, it is the longest track on the calendar and combines high-speed corners, significant elevation changes and long full-throttle sections that place a premium on aerodynamic efficiency and race strategy.
The opening sector features the iconic Eau Rouge and Raidillon combination, where commitment and precision are essential before the lap opens onto the long Kemmel Straight, providing one of the biggest overtaking opportunities of the weekend.
The middle sector brings a mix of technical corners and high-speed sequences, including the sweeping Pouhon left-hander, while the final sector requires strong mechanical grip and confidence through the Bus Stop chicane before the run back to the start-finish line.
The unpredictable Belgian weather can also play a key role across the weekend, with changing conditions around the circuit often creating additional challenges for teams when managing tyre performance and strategy.
Jin Nakamura heads into Spa looking to continue the momentum built at the Red Bull Ring, where he secured his maiden FIA Formula 3 podium and scored 18 points across the weekend. The Japanese driver will be targeting another consistent showing at a circuit where confidence and precision are crucial.
Fionn McLaughlin arrives with renewed confidence after delivering his strongest qualifying performance of the season at Silverstone and claiming his first FIA Formula 3 points finish in the Sprint Race. The focus will be on converting that pace into another strong overall weekend.
Michael Shin will be aiming for a clean and competitive weekend in Belgium after showing progress through the field at Silverstone despite setbacks across the event. The South Korean driver will be looking to maximise every opportunity as the championship continues.
Paul Bellringer, Hitech F3 Team Manager:
“Silverstone was an encouraging step forward, particularly with Fionn’s qualifying performance and Sprint Race points finish, and the focus now is on building from that and continuing to extract the maximum from all three cars. Spa is always a special challenge given the length of the lap and the changing conditions, which require teams to be adaptable throughout the weekend. We need to be prepared for anything and maximise every opportunity.”
