A Decade of Success

2015

Hitech GP founded. It was a small but ambitious operation that Oliver Oakes put together to embark on the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. Starting out with a one-off round with Alexander Sims, they gathered key learnings and valuable data ahead of the team’s full season debut the following year.

2016

Hitech GP joined the FIA Formula 3 European Championship grid for its racing debut, fielding a 3-car team and from the outset was entrusted with the development of exciting young talent:

  • George Russell – Mercedes Young Driver
  • Ben Barnicoat – Racing Steps Foundation Driver
  • Nikita Mazepin – Force India Development Driver

The opening campaign was a great success, demonstrating that Hitech GP had all the right ingredients to be a key player in the sport. Taking 4 wins, 13 podiums and 3 pole positions during a thrilling debut season, the team finished as runner-up in the Championship. To seal a sensational year, the team went on to take pole position on its first visit to the historic Macau Grand Prix. Hitech GP also embarked on the first steps of a key growth target to augment the racing operation with R&D capabilities. Renowned technical head Mark Smith joined the organisation to help form Hitech Technologies, providing technological support and services to race teams.

  • Jake Hughes – BRDC F4 Prodigy
  • Ralf Aron – Italian F4 title winner
  • Tadasuke Makino – Honda Formula Dream Driver
  • Nikita Mazepin – Force India Development Driver

With a newly developed aero kit to get to grips with so early in the team’s evolution, it surmounted a challenging start to the season and was soon fighting at the front of the field again. The additional data from having four drivers ensured the team was continuously developing.

Hitech GP notched up a win, 13 podiums and 3 pole positions during their 2017 campaign, finishing 4th overall in the team championship.

With the Technologies division also achieving steady growth, Hitech GP expanded into new premises. One further element of the operation was ripe for development – an appreciation of the role that the correct guidance and training could play in optimising driver inputs in the overall equation. Hitech Performance was formed, with a focus on simulation and human performance.
