British Grand Prix stage awaits Hitech F2 at Silverstone

Round 7 – Silverstone – Preview

The FIA Formula 2 Championship reaches its halfway point this weekend as Hitech’s F2 team heads to Silverstone for Round 7 of the season, racing on the support bill of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. It comes at the end of a quick turnaround following last weekend in Spielberg, with the drivers and engineers working closely to prepare for a circuit that presents a very different set of demands to the recent events.

Silverstone is always one of the standout weekends of the year for Hitech, with the team’s headquarters located just a stone’s throw from the circuit. This year’s event also carries added significance for Colton Herta, with Saturday marking 4 July and the 250th anniversary of American independence, adding a personal note to an already important weekend for both driver and team.

One of the fastest and most iconic venues on the Formula 2 calendar, Silverstone demands confidence from the drivers and the car. High-speed corners such as Copse, Maggotts, Becketts and Stowe reward commitment, while maintaining stability through the sweeping changes of direction is crucial to producing a competitive lap.

Although the circuit’s flowing nature places a premium on aerodynamic performance, overtaking opportunities remain through Village, Brooklands and Vale, with strategy and tyre management often proving decisive across both races. Rather than the changeable conditions often associated with Silverstone, this year’s British Grand Prix weekend is expected to be run in unusually warm weather, creating a different challenge for teams and drivers.

Having shown encouraging pace in Austria despite a frustrating outcome, the team arrives at Silverstone determined to build on those positives. As the championship reaches its midpoint, both Colton Herta and Ritomo Miyata will be looking to convert that potential into the results the team knows it is capable of.

Jan Sumann, Hitech's F2 Head of Race Engineering:

“Silverstone is always a special weekend for everyone in the team. Being based so close to the circuit makes it a real highlight of the season, and racing as part of the British Grand Prix adds to the occasion.”

Jan continued:

“It’s a very different challenge to Spielberg. The high-speed corners demand a car that’s stable and predictable, while giving the drivers the confidence to push right to the limit. After a busy few days preparing between the two events, we’re looking forward to seeing what we can do.

“We showed encouraging pace in Austria even though the results didn’t reflect our potential. The objective this weekend is to put together a clean event across both races and convert that performance into the results we know are within reach.”
