Hitech chasing strong finish at GB3 Monza finale
Round 8 - Monza - Preview
Hitech TGR travel to the legendary Autodromo Nazionale Monza this weekend for the final round of the GB3 Championship, with three races set to bring the curtain down on an action-packed 2025 season. The Italian venue, known as the Temple of Speed, provides a fitting stage for the season finale — Monza is a high-speed, low-drag circuit where slipstreaming, DRS and precision braking will be key in both qualifying and the races.
In the Drivers’ standings, Keanu Al Azhari sits seventh on 264 points, just 29 behind his Hitech team-mate Deagen Fairclough in fifth. With 102 points still on offer across the weekend’s three races, both drivers remain mathematically in contention for the runners-up spot in the championship standings.
Deagen arrives in Italy in strong form after scoring a podium at Donington Park last time out, adding to his four other podium finishes so far this season. The British racer is hoping Monza could finally bring that breakthrough GB3 victory.
Deagen Fairclough:
“Anything can happen at Monza. We’ll have a couple of days testing there before the competitive action begins, but it’s a place where you need to be accurate on the brakes from high speed. Get it wrong by half a metre and it will ruin your lap. Also, slipstreaming will be a big factor in qualifying, and if you get lucky with the tow it can make a huge difference. There’ll definitely be some tactics involved this weekend.”
For 17-year-old Keanu, Monza represents another milestone in the Dubai racer’s impressive rookie campaign.
“I’ve never raced at Monza before, but I’ve done plenty of laps there on the sim. It’s such a unique track — those long straights, big braking zones and flowing chicanes make it a real challenge. Getting a good tow is key, and even if you don’t have a perfect lap, the slipstream can make up a few tenths. I’ve no doubt the three DRS zones will lead to plenty of overtaking and lots of action in the three races.”
Built in the 1920s and set within the royal park on the outskirts of Milan, the historic 3.6-mile Monza circuit has hosted Formula 1 races since the World Championship began in 1950 and remains one of the world’s most evocative motorsport venues. Its famous banked section, unused since the 1960s, still stands as a reminder of the speed and spectacle that define the circuit.
This will be GB3’s first-ever visit to the famous Italian autodromo and, with Hitech second in the Teams’ standings, it’s the final chance to score a decent haul of points. Race 1 takes place on Saturday at 14:05 (local time), with Sunday’s two races at 09:45 and 16:50 (local time).
