F3 squad ready for Round 4 in Spielberg

Round 4 - Spielberg - Preview

Round 4 of the FIA Formula 3 Championship takes place in Spielberg this weekend as the season resumes following a short break after Barcelona.

Hitech head to the Styrian mountains and one of the most scenic venues on the calendar, the Red Bull Ring, before the start of a back-to-back sequence that continues at Silverstone next weekend.

The team’s F3 trio arrive in Austria aiming to build on the underlying pace shown in Spain, where strong potential was not fully reflected in the final results.

Reference data from in-season testing at the circuit will provide a useful baseline heading into the weekend.

At just 4.326km, the Red Bull Ring is one of the shortest circuits on the calendar, but it packs a punch in terms of layout and characteristics. Set against the natural backdrop of the mountains, the circuit features significant changes in elevation, with steep inclines and heavy braking zones defining the lap.

The opening half of the circuit rewards power and commitment, with three long straights broken up by uphill right-hand corners. From there, the track drops downhill into a faster, flowing section that includes the Rindt right-hander, one of the most demanding corners on the lap.

The combination of altitude changes and short lap distance means the margins are typically extremely fine, with small gains often having a noticeable impact on the overall order.

Track limits can also come into play, particularly through Turn 1 and the final corner onto the pit straight, where drivers push hard to maximise exit speed.

Jin Nakamura has scored points in the opening phase of the season and will be looking to carry that consistency into Austria.

Fionn McLaughlin and Michael Shin will be aiming to convert their early-season experience into stronger results at the Red Bull Ring.

With the season beginning to settle into its rhythm, Spielberg offers another opportunity for Hitech to build momentum through the opening phase of the championship.

Paul Bellringer, Hitech’s F3 Team Manager:

“It’s another familiar circuit for us from testing, so we’ve got some useful data to start from. That gives us a baseline. Jin has been consistent in the opening part of the season, which is a good foundation. Fionn and Michael have both had weekends where things haven’t fully come together, so the focus is on putting a cleaner weekend together and making the most of what we have.”
