Hitech lead the British F4 Teams’ standings

Round 2 - Silverstone - Report

Hitech TGR secured a total of 60 points at their home race to take the lead in the Teams’ Standings in this year’s Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA. With a second and third place at Silverstone this weekend, Fionn McLaughlin also closed the gap in the Drivers’ standings to just eight points.

With the first race held on Friday, track action at our home race got off to a strong start. Fionn qualified third on the grid and made a superb getaway to move into second – a position he held to the chequered flag. Unfortunately contact with team-mate Thomas Bearman in Race 2 dropped him down the order, but he bounced back with a second podium in Race 3. That gave him a total of 43 points over the weekend – and two more pieces of silverware with a brace of Rookie Cup wins.

Fionn McLaughlin:

“In the first race, I got a good launch off the line, so I moved straight into P2. I had a good battle on the first lap, but then the Safety Car came out. From there on it was quite tough to stay close to the leader.”

The Irish driver continued: “There was a lot of dirty air from the car in front – Silverstone is one of the toughest circuits for that because of its high-speed corners – so I just did the best job I could. But the way this track is, it’s difficult to stay within a second.”

Thomas’s best result came in Race 2, where he started sixth and, despite a chaotic opening lap, recovered to battle with Fionn and finish fourth – also claiming top honours in the Rookie Cup. Leaving our home circuit, Thomas sits fifth overall in the standings and second to Fionn in the Rookie Cup, just 18 points behind the Irishman.

Thomas Bearman:

“That was a good race - sixth to fourth which was pretty decent.”

Thomas continued: “I was a bit unfortunate to have contact with my team-mate, obviously that’s not the goal. But overall it was a good race and I’m pleased to get a decent haul of points.”

Unfortunately, Leo Robinson was unable to reach the finish of Race 1, but scored a top ten finish next time out and a fifth place to round out the weekend on a positive note. It was a remarkable opening phase for the Anglo-Algerian in Race 3, as he rose from 14th on the grid to gain nine places – most of them in a fraught and dramatic opening couple of laps around the high-speed Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.

Xavier Avramides scored 35 points in the Rookie Cup, helping complete a Hitech 1-2-3 in the class standings. The 17-year-old Australian started from pole in the reserve grid race, but was unable to keep the chasing pack behind and finished eighth – a result he matched in the final race of the weekend.
