Gerrard Xie promoted to Hitech’s 2025 F3 line-up

The official third rung of the Road to F1 ladder, the FIA Formula 3 Championship was created when the FIA combined GP3 with Formula 3 European to create a more defined entry point to the Formula 1 progression pathway. It is the perfect training ground for both F2, and ultimately F1, allowing young drivers to demonstrate their speed and tyre management abilities. As with F2, it races on the F1 platform, so drivers are able to demonstrate their talents in front of both the F2 teams they may take a step up with, and F1 teams keeping a close eye on where their next star driver may be coming from. 2025 sees the introduction of a new generation of F3 car.

2025 is Martinius’ second full season of FIA Formula 3 with Hitech. Stepping up to the international stage in 2024, he immediately impressed with a Sprint Race win in only the second round in Melbourne and was soon picked up by the McLaren Driver Development Programme. Fourth place in the Barcelona Sprint Race underlined his clear ability to fight for podiums, and he went on to prove his point with second place in the Spielberg Sprint. He rounded out a strong inaugural season with 10th place in the Monza Sprint and fifth place in the Feature Race there. His results played a big part in keeping Hitech in contention for the F3 Teams’ title throughout the season. Martinius joined Hitech from Formula Regional, where he made history as the first rookie to win his debut race and went on to become Vice-Champion in his first-ever campaign in the category.

Part of Hitech’s 2024 GB3 Championship driver line-up, Gerrard steps up to our FIA Formula 3 squad in 2025. The Chinese driver, from Shenzhen, born in Hong Kong, completed two seasons of GB3 competition, in which pole position and victory at the Hungaroring, and further podiums at Spa, Silverstone and Donington Park, were among the highlights of his second season in the series. In total, he racked up points finishes in 15 of the 24 races over eight rounds. In one of the series’ most fiercely contested seasons, Gerrard consistently demonstrated the skill, determination and bravery that have characterised his progression from third place in the 2020 IAME Asia Cup – Junior, to Champion in both the 2022 Formula Renault Super Challenge and the F4 Chinese Championship, and Vice-Champion in the Macau Grand Prix that same year.
