Hitech drivers show strong pace in Formula Trophy UAE Round 2
Round 2 - Abu Dhabi - Report
Hitech TGR enjoyed an encouraging weekend in Abu Dhabi as Scott Kin Lindblom and Theo Palmer made their Abu Dhabi debut in the second round of the F4 UAE Formula Trophy. Both drivers quickly adapted to the demanding Yas Marina layout in the second round of three in this late-season mini series.
Scott lined up fifth on the 28-car grid for the first race on Saturday but stalled as the lights went out, dropping him to 23rd. The Red Bull Junior Team driver avoided being collected and launched a superb recovery drive, charging through the field after an early Safety Car. Up to P13 by lap six and into the top ten soon after, he finished eighth on the road before a post-race penalty for forcing another driver off track pushed him down the order.
Scott Kin Lindblom:
“Unfortunately, I stalled at the start, but we made a very good recovery to get up to P8, so I was happy with that initial result. It’s been a good learning process throughout the race and to get up to speed at the Abu Dhabi circuit.”
Theo started Race 1 in tenth and made an excellent launch, gaining two places before the Safety Car was deployed for an incident ahead. Running strongly in fifth, the number #7’s race ended on lap seven when an electrical issue in the gearbox failed, leaving him unable to shift gears, so he came into the pits to unfortunately retire.
The second race of the weekend, supporting the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, brought more points for the team on Sunday. Theo started 11th and maintained position to the flag after a consistent run over the 12-lap encounter. Scott’s race was more action-packed: starting P7, he immediately gained ground, taking a place into the first corner. He was fifth by lap four before completing a late move on the final lap to secure fourth place — although the pass off track did catch the attention of the stewards.
Scott continued:
“I was in attack mode for Race 2 and managed to get up to fourth. I was forced off twice, and it was an exciting, hectic race. Big thanks to the Hitech team and their crew for giving me such a good car. We’re back here again next week for the final round and really looking forward to it.”
Theo Palmer:
“It was a challenging weekend from start to finish. Qualifying didn’t come together, putting us on the back foot early. A breakdown on track made things even tougher, but we regrouped and came back fighting.”
Theo continued:
“Race 2 was all about recovery, and we managed to bring it home in P10. Not the result we were aiming for, but the effort, learning, and resilience were there. We’ll build from this. Thank you to the team for all their hard work and efforts.”
Hitech now looks ahead to next weekend’s F4 Formula Trophy season finale. After practice on Friday, the final two races take place on Saturday, with Scott and Theo joined by Nina Gademan for her final appearance of the year in a Hitech cockpit.
