Nakamura storms to victory as Hitech kick off GB3 season in style
Round 1 - Silverstone - Report
The 2026 GB3 Championship season opened at Silverstone Circuit with a successful weekend for Hitech, featuring a race victory, strong points finishes, and competitive pace across all three drivers.
Fielding Deagen Fairclough, Jin Nakamura and Yuhao “Felix” Fu, the team showed front-running potential throughout the opening round of the season, despite a mix of highs, setbacks and interrupted running across the three races.
Race 1
Race 1 saw an encouraging start for the Hitech squad, with Deagen immediately on the attack from fifth on the grid. A feisty opening lap included slight contact with Bedrin, but he held position and remained firmly in the podium fight throughout.
Jin gained ground early before a Lap 2 coming-together with Fluxa dropped him down the order, though he recovered impressively to recover back to eighth, where he started. Felix showed early progress from the midfield before coming home in 17th.
Deagen remained in the leading group for much of the race, moving into fourth after a strong move on Campbell-Pilling and mounting a late challenge for the podium. A Safety Car period ultimately limited his opportunities, and he finished just outside the top three in fourth.
Race 2
Race 2 brought further promise for Deagen, who lined up on the front row for the first time this season and immediately seized the lead into Turn 1. However, Bedrin soon reclaimed the advantage, dropping him to second.
Jin once again showed strong early pace, climbing from ninth to sixth before a heavily interrupted race reshuffled the order. Deagen’s race ended prematurely on lap eight after being forced to pull up on the Hangar Straight.
Despite the disruption, Jin capitalised well to rise through the field and secure a strong fourth-place finish, while Felix brought his car home in 14th.
Race 3
Race 3 delivered the highlight of the weekend for Hitech, with Jin starting from fourth and immediately fighting at the front.
A strong opening phase saw him climb into second before taking the lead on lap three with a decisive move on Lee. Multiple fastest laps underlined his pace advantage as the race developed.
A mid-race Safety Car bunched the field, setting up a tense run to the flag. Deagen showed strong early progress from 11th into the top ten before an unfortunate retirement mid-race ended his hopes of a result. Felix ran consistently in the midfield, eventually finishing 14th.
In a dramatic conclusion, Jin produced a brilliant final-lap move to take the lead and secure victory in the opening round of the season.
Jin Nakamura:
“This is a great way to finish my first GB3 weekend and I’m very happy. I’ve really enjoyed racing at Silverstone. I’m looking forward to Spa now and just want to keep pushing and working hard.”
Hitech leave Silverstone with a race win, strong points finishes, and clear front-running pace across the weekend.
While results did not fully reflect his qualifying speed, Deagen consistently demonstrated strong pace, particularly in single-lap running, before a series of race incidents limited his scoring opportunities. Jin’s victory and consistent performance throughout the weekend provide a strong foundation heading into Spa-Francorchamps.
