Hitech’s new F2 line-up impresses with double points finish

Round 1 - Melbourne - Report

Hitech capped off a strong opening weekend of the new FIA Formula 2 Championship season with a double points finish in the Feature Race at the Albert Park Circuit.

Sunday’s 33-lap race saw both drivers fight their way through a competitive midfield. Ritomo Miyata, starting P13, charged through the pack to finish 5th, while Colton Herta climbed from P14 to finish 7th, with the application of time penalties at the chequered flag further improving his final position.

Miyata also scored points in Saturday’s 23-lap Sprint Race, kicking off his points tally right from the very first race with a strong drive from P11 to P5.

Ritomo Miyata:

“It’s been a really strong start to the season. Scoring points in yesterday’s Sprint Race and then finishing P5 in the Feature Race feels great. The car felt good, and the team gave me everything I needed to push. I’m excited for what’s ahead.”

Colton Herta:

“It’s been a great start to my first F2 season. The car felt good, and I learned a lot this weekend. Scoring points in the Feature Race is encouraging, and I’m excited to keep building as the season goes on.”

Jan Sumann, Hitech’s F2 Head of Race Engineering:

“Both Ritomo and Colton have made a very good start to the new season here in Melbourne. Ritomo’s charge from P13 to P5, building on his points from the Sprint Race, was fantastic. Colton made good progress in his first F2 outing, and finishing in the points is a great result for him and the team. It’s a strong start to the season, and we’ll aim to keep building on this as we head to the next round.”

Championship Standings After Round 1:

Ritomo Miyata sits 4th in the championship with 14 points, while Colton Herta is 11th with 6 points. A strong start for the new Hitech line-up.

The team sits third in the Teams’ standings after the opening round.
