Hitech head to Donington Park for the penultimate GB3 round

Round 7 - Donington Park - Preview

Hitech TGR head north to compete in the penultimate round of this year’s GB3 Championship, as the series visits the East Midlands circuit of Donington Park. After securing two podiums last time out at Brands Hatch, fourth-placed Deagen Fairclough will be aiming for another successful weekend before the season reaches its finale.

On Hitech’s last visit to Donington Park 12 months ago, all three of our drivers claimed a podium across the weekend’s three races. Despite a new car for 2025, the target is to deliver another strong performance at the historic venue. With two days of testing on the Grand Prix layout ahead of the competitive action, the team will focus on fine-tuning the setup for maximum performance.

Deagen’s double podium at Brands Hatch in late August elevated him from seventh to fourth in the Drivers’ standings. Since then, he has also enjoyed his first taste of Formula 1 machinery, testing with Aston Martin as his prize for winning the BRDC Autosport Young Driver of the Year award.

After twice tasting success at Donington Park during last year’s British F4 campaign, the West Sussex racer is keen to recapture that form this weekend and take his maiden GB3 victory.

Deagen Fairclough:

“After those two podiums at Brands Hatch, I’m feeling good about getting behind the wheel of the Hitech GB3 car again. Donington Park is a fun circuit for racing, but it can be tricky in open-wheel cars like GB3 due to the high speeds and tight corners. You can’t afford to make a mistake — and it can be quite bumpy — but qualifying can be really rewarding if you get the lines right.”

Emirati racer Keanu Al Azhari has already claimed one victory this season and the Alpine Academy-backed youngster is relishing the challenge of racing on Donington Park’s longer 2.5-mile GP layout.

Keanu Al Azhari:

“I’ve done a few tests here now and I’d say it’s a classic British track: narrow, fast, and flowing. That final corner is key — the kerbs are brutal, but when you get it right, it’s a great feeling. I really like the circuit. Again, it’s all about minimising risk, judging how much speed you can carry into each corner and knowing where to prioritise your line.”

Qualifying gets underway on Saturday morning, followed by Race 1 at 15:15 local time. Race 2 is scheduled for 10:35 on Sunday morning, with the final GB3 race of the weekend taking place at 16:20.
