Reece Ushijima joins Hitech in 2020 BRDC British Formula 3 campaign

Hitech GP today announced Reece Ushijima as their first confirmed driver for their 2020 BRDC British Formula 3 campaign.

Reece Ushijima will fill the seat of the Hitech machinery, with the second driver set to be announced in due course.  The California-born 16-year-old is preparing for his first season of car racing after graduating from karting. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he had to change plans switching from Formula Renault Eurocup.

Hitech made the announcement last month that they will be joining the 2020 BRDC British F3 Championship, set to get underway at Oulton Park on 1-2 August.

Reece had his first experience of motorsport at the A-One Circuit in Fukuoka, Japan, aged 13, and has since contested national and international competition in Asia, North America and Europe. He made his car-racing debut at a Formula Ford 1600 event, achieving pole position, two podium finishes and a fastest lap. Reece secured a pair of fastest laps at the Dubai Autodrome at his debut event in the Asian-based MRF Challenge.

The teams BRDC British F3 Programme will be led by Phil Blow who has overseen Hitech’s Asian F3 programme since its inception in 2018.  The season will operate on a revised calendar, alongside the British GT Championship, taking place between August – November and comprising 7 events across the UK.

Reece Ushijima said:

“I’m really excited to have the privilege to be able to work and race with such an established and experienced team such as Hitech GP. I know that the team will put maximum effort in to developing me on and off the track to be able to achieve the best results possible in my first car racing season. After a delayed start to seasons all over the world due to the pandemic I really can’t wait to hit the track and get racing.”
