On day two of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship pre-season tests at the 4.381-kilometre Hungaroring, Hitech GP driver Alex Palou secured the top position on the time sheets. In sunny but cool conditions at the GP circuit located not far from Budapest, his team-mate Enaam Ahmed came third, followed by four Prema drivers: Ralf Aron and Mick Schumacher as well as the two Ferrari juniors Robert Shvartzman and Guanyu Zhou.
“For me, the top priority on these two days was to cover as many kilometres as possible and try different things,” concluded Alex Palou visibly satisfied. “Having raced in the Japanese F3 Championship last year I am looking forward to now have the chance of contesting the 2018 Formula 3 European Championship season although this meant that I had to accustom to the Hankook tyres and the Mercedes engine.”
In the battle for the fastest lap time, the 20-year old young gun defeated his two-year younger team-mate Ahmed who wasn’t surprised by the Spaniard’s performance. ”As I see it, Alex is one of the title-favourites,” the Briton said already on day one of the tests. Behind the Hitech Grand Prix pairing and the four PREMA Theodore Racing Team drivers, four other rookies completed the top 10: Renault-Junior Sacha Fenestraz, Hitech GP driver Ben Hingeley, Ferrari protégé Marcus Armstrong and Sebastian Fernandez.
