Hitech GP confirm Raoul Hyman for the inaugural FIA Asian F3 Championship

Hitech GP are delighted to welcome Raoul Hyman to its FIA Asian F3 Championship roster for the upcoming season. The talented 22-year-old will take to the wheel of the Hitech Dragon GP car for the inaugural FIA Asian F3 Championship which is set to get underway at Sepang, Malaysia in July this year.

With a motorsport career spanning ten years, Raoul joins Hitech fresh from a 2017 GP3 campaign which saw him claiming multiple top-ten finishes, and a race win. Starting his driving career at twelve years old, Raoul has enjoyed a wealth of success in his formative years, contesting the British Super 1 National Championship in 2011 and 2012, achieving a third-place result in 2012.

Following his debut in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship in 2013, Raoul secured yet another podium result, finishing in 3rd place in the 2014 campaign. His talent gained special recognition from the BRDC, naming him as a ‘Rising Star’ for achieving the most podiums in the series.

Gaining further experience in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in 2015, Raoul once again proved his on-track capabilities with five top-ten finishes and one Rookie podium. More recently, 2017 marked Raoul’s debut in the GP3 Championship, rounded off with a number of top-ten finishes, in particular with a spectacular victory at the Red Bull Ring.

Eager to get behind the wheel of the Hitech Dragon GP car, Hyman commented:

“I am thrilled to be competing in the inaugural Asian F3 Championship and especially excited to join Hitech Dragon GP.”

“The team is extremely professional in their approach and are motivated to win, so I’m happy to be joining their ranks. Our aim is to hit the ground running and mount a successful championship assault from the very first round in Sepang. I’m really looking forward to getting the season started.”

Oliver Oakes, Hitech GP’s Team Principal, added:

“We are thrilled to welcome Raoul to the Asian F3 squad. With his proven talent in junior formula the past few years, we are confident that Raoul will be a great fit for the Asian F3 campaign.”

The Silverstone-based team will be contesting the full FIA Asian F3 Championship, which expects to see a grid of 24 cars for its opening round at Sepang in July later this year. The championship is run under the umbrella of the FIA’s new Regional F3 concept, which Hitech have claimed is an “ideal feeder” into International F3, which is set to become a Formula 1 support series in 2019. The Asian F3 Series will feature a mix of professional and amateur drivers, competing in Formula 3 cars that conform to the FIA F3 regulations, adopting the development of the new single chassis, single engine concept.

The 2018 Asian F3 Championship is scheduled to kick off at former Malaysian Grand Prix venue Sepang on 13-15 July.
